All we have to do is look toward Israel where a single tent became not only the heart but also the soul of a new class movement whose main gripe is that the middle-class is bearing the brunt of an imbalanced budgetary spend. “The People Demand Social Justice” is the key chant heard loudly from the Israeli’s who have taken to the streets to protest.
As the start of these social protests by the “middle-class” in Israel began to show up on the streets of the country about 4 weeks ago. With a national outcry over the rising price of basic food staples such as cottage cheese, these protests then grew virally into a full-blown national movement by the way of a simple act of a then unknown young woman. As her act of social defiance was to pitch that “single” tent in Tel-Aviv’s Rothschild Boulevard as a form of graphic protest because of the high apartment rental costs now being borne by the middle.
Much like the Tea Party movement here in the States, the middle class worldwide has grown tired being the caged sow for the rest of society to suckle the life from. Also the rich aren’t the answer either as the middle class is now the functional “rich” with their post graduate dual income earning families supersede this class in aggregate. However the answer to the question is a simple one as its one word being “accountability”.
As what I find interesting is in my home town here in Michigan, the city has an unemployment rate higher than that of the national average. Now this is nothing strange right as there are a lot of small cities who once depended upon light Manufacturing as their mainstay which is now lost to offshore vendors. However what is odd is that during these times a restaurant has to post a help wanted sign for weeks with no takers.
Yes true story, as why is this the case as we have to ask ourselves and can you guess the answer? Yes Virginia the “answer” is a simple one as social programs pay to well, so if this is the case why make any extra effort to become employed? People like all other things in nature are predisposed to take the shortest [easiest] path between two points. Therefore these social programs will by that very axiom create their own self fulfilling prophecy of self dependency.
The piece of this which is interesting, is this just isn’t an American thing, in fact if we look to the rioting in the UK, uprisings in Israel, defaults in Greece, etc. We quickly see that the concept of the middle class is firmly under attack throughout the western world as the afluancy flows outwards is an all too common fact of today’s world…
