Tell Me of Your Dreams…

He had a dream, do you?

Here I’m not waxing of those slumber-time interludes where the land of reality meets some form of oasis in the sleeping mind.  Instead the quest here is for our waking “dreams” as they form our wishes and aspirations as being part of your person, in essence they are you and who you want to be.

While it might surprise you, not everyone has dreams nor aspirations of the such as their mortal demands are simply put as wants and needs. Therefore, be it by either proxy or prudence a leader is created when one with a dream seeks to share that very dream with others. The best example of this was “Martin Luther King” as in his speech “I have a Dream” he shared his dream with the world in a iconoclastic way cementing his place in history and more importantly in the minds of not only the people of his time, however the many generations which have followed since.

Here Dr Kings “Dream” has become his story, which in turn has become the story of others, and from there it has grown to become the story of many, finally becoming that of the masses.  As ask yourself what the world would be like if Dr King didn’t share his story, as if in a moment of selfish self fulfillment his dream remained his and only his?  As a leader our lives should be filled with stories based upon our dreams and those dreams are meant to be shared, as man famously is not an island.

As one of my major tenets in life is that people work for people as the only thing which one can give of more value then there work is their love.  In saying this, one then must realize a bond needs to exist and for this to be the case its here the “dream” becomes the bond which is shared by the “story“.  As both a dream and story can span not only mere decades, however many generational lifetimes being handed down and shared across the ages.  As combined together a dream in a story lacks the mortal bounds our physical flesh is subject to.

Also, least you think recognition of such dreams are only the domain of the few, think again as they are in fact the realm of the many.  The many that is who are venturesome enough to share them rather than covet them in private as I’ve come to know this via “Eleanor” as while having never met her, can’t say I know her and in fact since she has passed will never be given the chance too.  Yet having been robbed of the later, the fact still remains is I know her story, therefore possess part of the dream which she had shared with others who in turned shared it with me and in turn I share with you here as a demonstration that a dream can start as one thing, yet end up to be something totally different.

So have you shared your dreams today, as surely you must have a story to tell…

About Joseph Campbell

As a strong believer in the fact that "people work for people", it has been a life driver to better to understand the complexities of the various aspects which drive efficiency within this axiom, especially the concepts of leadership. Supporting this, I have been fortunate enough to having experienced this as leader on a global basis over the last decade and half. During this time it has been clear there are three core drivers being Life, Leadership and Economics.
