next to him…”]Yesterday we were talking about our old friend Dr Phil and the fact he uses the power of “statements” to drive his TV show ratings as well be little the run of the mill cheaters and the plethora of folks with poor parenting skills. As even into today’s title I used the power of “statement on you as you read it what did you think? Also how many times as a kid have you heard this? In fact many of us who grew up during the space race remember playing “Alien” where we visited this primitive planet called earth and demanded to see the top dog. Yes “Take Me To Your Leader”.
As here if we would have said, “I would really like to see your leader” believe part of the impact would be lost. In fact this won’t even get us the time of day in the big city. So jumping back to speaking about leaders let’s talk about some and let’s start in the current day with Barrack Obama. As here we have a master on our hands in the use of “statement” verses “comments” as listen to him the next time he speaks. Speaking of this, keep in mind when debating, a statement doesn’t provide for a conditional retort, as the “retort” must be in “absolute” as the “statement” is fix and “absolute” itself.
Ok then there was George W who was the biggest wannabe statement giver I’ve seen yet he failed in delivery. In all seriousness a speech coach may have helped him as for a “statement” to be effective it must be in “whole” and George would become “flustered” and come up short.
Now we move to Bill Clinton who was an interesting sort as he suffered at the other end of the scale then George W. yet in a little better way. As in the case of GWB, he would start fine and ended with nonsense, whereas WJDC would also start fine however never seem to stop!
Now we are back to George Sr and sorry to say as a one term wonder and the biggest “ comment-er” at that, the only statement I heard pass the man’s lips was “read my lips“! Which we all know sunk his battle ship.
Then we go to my personal favorite Ronald Reagan, and the man knew how to make a “statement” as may I remind you of “Mr Gorbachev tear down that wall“. Yes then on November 9th 1989 it happen marking the end of the cold war. This goes to make a point, if you’re a high profile leader or want to be invest in speaking lessons, as a trained and experienced actor, Reagan held the edge for the delivery of words as well as the ability to ad-lib.
However who remembers Jimmy Carter, ok if the guy wasn’t a “ comment-er” I don’t know one as I can’t count the many times I recall seeing him on TV speaking and it seemed he was going to break down and cry.
Well going past Carter for me is dicey as this is about where my interest in politics started as to me Watergate meant my after school specials were canceled…
